Mariko Paterson

Mariko Paterson

Vancouver, BC born and raised, Mariko made quick tracks to get out of there after studying at Langara College to see what else was shaking. Further schooling included attending the Alberta College of Art, as is was know in Calgary back in the day, and then Kent State University for her MFA. She never did get a doctorate degree… oh well. After graduating she did a stint at Greenwich House Pottery in NYC and then began a few years of taking on teaching gigs and residencies throughout North America and abroad. Her strange work is scattered about the earth, bringing tears of happiness and joy to all who collect it. At least this is what she tells herself. She likes to make pieces from a Cone 6 clay body that she then decorates to death and fires many times. Sometimes they are functional… sometimes they are not, but these day she leans towards creating quasi-useful objects for your day-to-day fondling pleasure.
