KyoungHwa Ho

My life experiences and cultural background are the inspiration for my work. I create ceramic objects that reflect traditional Korean culture and western contemporary style. Eastern and Western cultures are symbolically expressed through this language. Like Yin and Yang, my work encompasses the influence between traditional Asian values and modern Western society. My work consists of functional and sculptural carved porcelain ceramics. It has been strongly influenced by the element of nature such as water, flower, and space. Nature is the unifying subject in my carved porcelain vessels; through its depiction I am able to express the emotions and experiences of life. I unite the opposite qualities of fullness and emptiness by using positive and negative space, and use graceful flowing lines to reveal a harmonic balance within my work.
