Alyssa Welch

Choosing to use a ceramic piece, for artistic or practical reasons, is a conscious decision that creates a moment in in time and forges a relationship with the piece of art before Clay is even involved Alyssa is taking into consideration what type of foods the piece is designed for and where it will rest. Part of her inspiration drives from this, and the rest from decorative objects crafted by silversmiths and French porcelain of 18th-century. Her use of pattern is influenced by wallpaper and textiles. Alyssa uses slip-cast midrange clay and vinyl resist for the patterns. Alyssa graduated from University of Florida in 2008 with her MFA and is currently pursuing her art from her home studio in Minneapolis Minnesota.
