Barbara Frey

Barbara Frey’s ceramic sculptures have been exhibited in over two hundred juried, curated, and solo exhibitions. Her handbuilt porcelain teapots have been shown in over 45 teapot exhibitions in museums and galleries. Her work has been widely published in books on ceramics and is included in both private and public collections including The Diane and Sandy Besser Teapot Collection, de Young Museum, San Francisco, CA; the Everson Museum of Art, Syracuse, NY; The Sonny and Gloria Kamm Foundation Teapot Collection, Sparta, NC; the Ichon World Ceramic Center, Kyonggi Province, Korea; the Permanent Collection of Purple Sand Factory #5, Yixing, China; San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts; the Jacqueline and David Charak Collection, Racine Art Museum, Racine, WI; the Kohler Co. Permanent Collection; and the John Michael Kohler Arts Center Permanent Collection. Artist residencies include a 1996 teapot making residency at Purple Sand Factory #5 in Yixing, China, and a 2006 Arts/Industry residency at Kohler Co., Kohler, WI. Barbara Frey has a BFA in Ceramics from Indiana University and an MFA in Ceramics from Syracuse University. She recently retired from a forty-year teaching career at SUNY-Oswego and Texas A&M University-Commerce. She is the recipient of the 2013 NCECA Excellence in Teaching Award.
